I would like to thank Mrs. Ayda Orang, Public Relations Manager of the 5 International Film and Photo Festival, for the article she wrote about our photo exhibition at the Italian Embassy in Tehran, which she had published in several Iranian newspapers and media outlets.

Given that things are not exactly simple in this country, especially regarding women and culture, I must once again express my admiration for those women and men who fight with the passive yet incredibly powerful tools of culture and tolerance against obscurantism.

Here are three links to the articles in Persian, and the translation is at the bottom of this post!

Special Ceremony of the Fifth International 5 Film and Photo Festival Held in Collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Iran

The special ceremony of the Fifth International 5 Film and Photo Festival was held in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Iran at the embassy's garden in Tehran. This event, titled "Special Section of the Fifth International 5 Film and Photo Festival," focused on honoring Abbas Kiarostami and Pier Paolo Pasolini. It showcased the best works of renowned photographers worldwide under the theme "Conversations in Frames." The event took place on December 13th in the garden of the Italian Embassy in Tehran.

At the beginning of the ceremony, the Italian Ambassador, Mrs Paola Amadei, expressed his delight at the cultural collaboration between Iran and Italy. Amadei also referred to the continuous partnership of this international festival with the Italian Embassy in Iran and praised this cultural and artistic event.

Mehdi Shadizadeh, the founder and secretary of the Fifth International 5 Film and Photo Festival, briefly thanked the prominent figures of the country's cinema and culture, including the Italian ambassador and Emmanuel Marchi, the first secretary of the cultural section of the Italian Embassy.

He stated, "Italian cinema has been the greatest inspiration for world cinema, having played a significant and influential role in the history of global cinema. Many great Italian directors are renowned in the international film industry, but the name of Pier Paolo Pasolini always stands out as we raise our cultural flag. In celebrating a century of our rich cinema, we also honor the name of Abbas Kiarostami, who has always symbolized culture, peace, friendship, and humanity. This program is designed to honor two influential cultural and cinematic figures from Iran and Italy, who are unique on the international stage."

Following this, live music was performed by Sardar Sarmast (piano), Golnoush Hamidi (trumpet), and Armin Dilam, singing in Italian. Additionally, poems by Pier Paolo Pasolini and Abbas Kiarostami were recited in Italian during the special section of the festival.

Attendees were then invited to view the works of photographers and videographers from the fifth edition of the 5 Film and photo festival, which were displayed in the hall of the Italian Embassy's garden. In the photography section, works from the festival's jury, which includes global photographers like Gregory Herpe (France), Ilknur Baltaki (Turkey), Timurtas Onan (Turkey), Giovanni Ercolani (Italy), Mircea Albutino (Romania), and Arthur Herpe (France) and Emma Frery (france) were showcased.

In the special section of the Fifth International 5 Film and Photo Festival, notable attendees included Mohammad Mehdi Asgarpour, Pouri Banaei, Khosrow Khorshidi, Shaghayegh Farahani, Setareh Eskandari, Nasser Aghaei, Shabnam Ghorbani, and representatives from various cultural institutions, such as the Austrian Embassy's cultural attaché, Sahar Seyed Jafar, Fatemeh Goudarzi, and a representative from the Vatican Embassy.
