Shaki, Azerbaijan.
Serenity and melancholy in the Caucasus mountains. We are only a few dozen kilometres from the Russian border.
The architecture reflects this. But nature is everywhere, and many tourists come to discover its wonders.
I wanted to symbolise the immensity of nature in the face of man's smallness.
Shaki is situated at an altitude of between 500 and 850 metres. The mountain forests around the towns limit the warming of the city, and there are beech and hazel trees, which protect the city from flooding and decorate it. The area is also rich in wildlife.
The historic centre of Sheki, with the Khan's Palace, will be included on the UNESCO World Heritage List on 7 July 2019.
