Paneriai, Lithuania
Yellow wooden house (typical of Baltic and Scandinavian architecture), on the edge of the forest, alongside the railway line, in the Lithuanian countryside. Paneriai is a suburb of Vilnius about 10 kilometres from the city centre, on low wooded hills. The tracks in the foreground, the grass so green, the clouds in the sky above the trees. This photo was taken from a moving train between Vilnius and Trakai. Between the movement of the train and the stillness of the landscape.
Paneriai is infamous for the massacre of almost 100,000 inhabitants of Vilnius and surrounding towns and villages during the Second World War.
