Yankari Game Reserve, NigeriaPhoto published in the exhibition catalogue ‘L'Odyssée de Gregory Herpe’ following my exhibition at the Musée de St-Cyprien in 2017.
The Nigerian chimpanzee is a subspecies of the common chimpanzee that inhabits the tropical forests along the border of Nigeria and Cameroon.
The male chimpanzees of Nigeria can weigh up to 70 kilos, with a body length of up to 1.2 metres and a height of 1.3 metres. Females are much smaller.
The Nigerian-Cameroonian chimpanzee is recognised as the most threatened and least widespread of all the common chimpanzee subspecies, and without a radical change in human behaviour in the region, there is a likelihood of extinction in the coming decades.
