In the Gobustan National Reserve, a 1960s/70s Lada taxi rests at the base of a mud volcano. The driver casually lights a cigarette.
The desert stretches out, dry and barren, bordered by rugged mountains.
In an odd twist, these constantly erupting volcanoes produce only cold mud, renowned for its healing properties for the skin.
I was drawn to the surreal, almost lunar quality of this landscape—fields of rock and earth that seem to belong to another world.
