I was born in Paris, and I love not only my city but this cathedral, which has stood the test of time.

This quay honours Jean Lannes, Duke of Montebello (1769-1809), a general during the Revolution and the Empire, who was elevated to the rank of Marshal of the Empire. He was one of the best commanders Napoleon had: Napoleon said of him on St Helena: ‘Lannes, the bravest of all men, was certainly one of the men in the world on whom I could rely most. Lannes' spirit had grown to the level of his courage, he had become a giant.
