The Order of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence was founded in San Francisco in 1979 by a group of gay activists. Since then, convents have opened all over the globe.
They take vows to help the LGBTQ+ community fight against exclusion, to spread awareness of medical advances regarding HIV, and to promote safe sex practices, always in a spirit of non-violence and peace.
Bucharest is the only Orthodox branch of the movement.
Being a drag queen in the Romanian capital is not easy. In Romania, homosexuals were imprisoned until 2001. Things are changing too slowly, but there is hope.
