Preaek Thmei, Cambodia
Tina Kieffer, a leading French journalist, left everything behind to set up an NGO in Cambodia to put little girls with no access to education into school. Some are orphans, others come from very poor families, and some have experienced terrible tragedies (pedophilia, father killing mother, etc).
Tina asked me to come and do a black and white report on the spot. The most moving of my career.
The reportage from which this photo is taken won 3 awards at the IPA (International Photography Awards), categories Social Cause, Children, and Portraits, New-York, USA, 2016, and received the award for Best Documentary Photo at Boundless Pictures in 2024, UK.
And published in the book ‘L'Odyssée de Grégory Herpe’.
